SATURDAY:

Saturdays are jammed packed with lots of visitors, classes, and challenging activities.

  • This Saturday we met lots of new friends.
  • Group class was lots of fun and great learning going on  – if you’re interested in getting in on this energetic fast paced class for you and your dog let Michele know 303-578-9881

TIPS/TRICKS: Socializing your puppy/dog should include visiting and being handled by other people as well as going to new environments. Socializing doesn’t just mean playing around with other dogs.

TGIF – FRIDAY:

Friday’s are fun days at camp.  We try new commands and learn a trick or two.

  • Busy morning!  Camp Dogs with Trainer Kyle – it’s cold so quick walks today
  • Service training session with Peter and Grover – working on take it
  • Our old friend Mr. Bingley will be staying for the weekend – he’s been missed
  • Afternoon, second follow up class with Rosco and Aussie and then class 4 with Rocket

TIPS/TRICKS: When it’s cold outside and you and your dog don’t want to stay out as long – don’t skip the walk just shorten it a bit and then do some training indoors. Working on stays is great on gloomy days.

Dog Works Training Centers: Wednesday 2/23/11

February 23, 2011

Hump Day!

  • Early Start: Picked up Aussie and Rosco for day training – went on a quick walk in their neighborhood.  Camp Dogs enjoyed the new scenery.
  • Wednesday’s are field trip days – today we went to the park and worked on sitting on different surfaces and paying attention with distractions.
  • Dropped off for the weekend Cashew and Lulu who participate in private lessons. Also being dropped off Will, who is joining us for Camp Works for 3 weeks
  • Class at 1p with Bliss – this was Bliss’ 3rd class – today he was a bit agitated, he sprayed my leg and shoe, nipped my thigh, and struggled performing…..all because I brought out some training tools (cones)!  So I showed his owner how to do some counter conditioning techniques and build Bliss’ confidence up.
  • Class at 3p – Ellie participates in Intermediate Obedience classes and is doing better on her stays and distractions.

TIP/TRICK: If your dog seems agitated or stressed during training – try to identify the stressor and then use counter conditioning in a positive light to help your dog get over what is agitating him/her.

Dog Works Training Centers: TGIF

February 21, 2011

TGIF – FRIDAY:

Friday’s are fun days at camp.  We try new commands and learn a trick or two.

  • Met with new clients Oliver and Bella – Bella will be joining Camp Works while Oliver is participating in private lessons
  • Had a great training session with Diane, Rosco and Aussie’s owner – they’ve been home for one week after Puppy Camp Works 2 – the pups are doing fairly well, and after an hour and a half training session I believe Diane feels much better about the training progress
  • Evening – I headed to an in home in Golden with a golden retriever named Will

TIPS/TRICKS: Puppies all learn at different rates.  The breed really has little to do with it.  Each puppy takes to his surroundings and processes what’s being communicated differently.  Remember they are young and in order to learn training should be kept short and fun.
